In October ’17 we designed and built a production including sound, lighting, and rigging for Destination Dance, (destinationdanceuk.com) the UK’s premiere dance competition. Dance schools from all over the country competed for trophies and scholarships to some of the UK’s best dance colleges.
Soloists, duos, trios and group acts competed in a number of styles including jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, and ballet. The whole event was a great success.
The competition ran for four days, with hundreds of dancers and choreographers showcasing their talents and skills. Whether a winner or competitor, the aim was to inspire young dancers to achieve their potential as well as offer scholarships to a handful of top class schools.

Production Design & Build
Hire Frequencies provided pre-production design services such as detailed 3D set drawings so the client could fully understand the concept. This allowed our team and the American-based client to communicate clearly and ensure the end result met their brief and budget.
The Hire Frequencies team spent two days transforming York Hall, the famous East London boxing venue, into a spectacular dance show and performance space. We started with a 40-piece Steeldeck stage (10m x 12m).
We then built an 8m wide truss goalpost and with careful teamwork and guidance from our very experienced technical director Rupert, we were able to smoothly erect and install within a couple of hours.
Once all our rigging and stage was complete we could then move onto sound & lighting installation. The lighting system consisted of 16 LED moving heads and a range of generic fresnel and profile fixtures all controlled by a ChamSys lighting desk. In terms of sound we installed a d&b T10 series cluster with single 18” subs and lined the hall and balcony with T10 point source.
